Frequently Asked Questions

How does BioOhio gather all of the information that is stored within the Directory? How is it maintained and kept current?
Much of the information in the Directory has been acquired through many years of actively networking and obtaining publicly available information. Although BioOhio is active in obtaining information for new organizations, we also rely on the bioscience community itself to contribute new information. We strongly encourage emailing us about new organizations you believe should be in the Directory, and we invite comments related to correcting errors. Please submit all additions, deletions, and corrections by clicking on SUGGESTIONS / EDITS. We do our best to ensure that information from you is added or corrected in a very timely manner.
How can I see all the listings in the directory?
On the main Directory page (http://www.bioohio.com/directory/), leave the SEARCH field blank and click GO. This will return an alphabetical list of all companies in the Directory.
What do the different Search options do and how can I utilize them to search the Directory efficiently?
On the main Directory page (http://www.bioohio.com/directory/), there are two main search functions: “SEARCH” and “BROWSEABLE CATEGORY INDEX.”
The SEARCH option allows users to search by any alphanumeric search term of interest. Possibilities include (but are not limited to) company name, street, city, region, key words, etc. Examples: pharmaceutical, Columbus, polymer, or 43212.
You can also search phrases using quotation marks. Entering “medical device” will return results for organizations with those words appearing in the order they appear within the quotation marks. Pairing a phrase with un-quoted terms is also possible, ex: “medical deviceimaging. The more specific the search terms, the narrower the results will be. To ensure the most search results, choose broad search terms.
BROWSEABLE CATEGORY INDEX offers two options. By selecting a letter of the alphabet, you may browse a complete list of Ohio organizations beginning with that letter. The second option is a browseable list of functional categories to which we have assigned companies. Each category has at least one sub-category. Note: the same company may be listed under multiple categories. Clicking the name of a category will expand the category to display the relevant sub-categories. At this point you can click “search all” to view all companies within the main category or click a sub-category to view only those companies. If you do not wish to view results from that category, simply click a different category or use the SEARCH feature.
Each results page provides options to NARROW YOUR RESULTS on the left side of the page. For example, after clicking on the “Diagnostics” sub-category of the “Medical Devices / Equipment” category, you may then click on “Akron” to identify all Diagnostics category companies having a location in Akron.
Under NARROW YOUR RESULTS, the criteria currently being used will be colored blue. You can click a different city without using the back button or restarting your search. In the previous example, clicking “Columbus” will change your results from “Diagnostics” companies located in Akron to “Diagnostics” companies located in Columbus.
Similarly, clicking "Medical Devices / Equipment" will expand your search to all results in the category, not only those within the “Diagnostics” sub-category.
If you have any further questions regarding the what’s and how’s of the Directory search engine, contact Drew Cook.

Why isn't my company included in the Directory?
The Ohio Bioscience Resource Directory is a living and ever-changing database. We are counting on the help of visitors to advise us of companies that should be added to the Directory and to inform us of incomplete data or information that has changed, like addresses, e-mails, or company names.

How can I get my name listed as a Key Contact for my organization and my personal contact information stored?

What's the difference between non-member (or "public") access and member access to the Directory, and how can I gain access to the member privileges of the Directory?
The Ohio Bioscience Resource Directory is a tool to identify and connect with Ohio’s growing community of bioscience-related companies, research organizations, and service providers. Most of the Directory’s contents can be accessed without logging in (“public,” or non-member access). On the other hand, some information has been made available only to BioOhio members as a membership benefit. Only members have access to individual contact information associated with listed organizations (when available). This information can be accessed by simply entering the Login Name and Password (members received within their Membership Packet) at the top right corner of any page in the Directory. Contact BioOhio Membership Coordinator Jen Goldsberry (jgoldsberry@bioohio.com, 614-675-3686, x1004) if you don’t know or cannot locate your member log-in info. If you are not a BioOhio member, and are interested in becoming one, fill out an online application or email to Jen Goldsberry (jgoldsberry@bioohio.com). Details about membership benefits can be found on the BioOhio website under the Membership tab.
How do I login?
All members receive a membership packet which includes your Login Name and Password. Logging in can be accomplished by entering your Login Name and Password in the appropriate boxes at the top right corner of any page in the Directory. After entering your information, click the “Login” button. A successful login will be characterized by a welcome message.
What do I do if I can’t remember (or don’t know) my/my organization’s Login Name or Password, wish to change either one, or receive an error message when attempting to log in?
Please send an email to Jen Goldsberry (jgoldsberry@bioohio.com).
I received a Login Name and Password from BioOhio, but they don’t seem to provide me with access to members-only information. Why is this, and what should I do?
There are two primary reasons why a Login Name and Password would not provide the user with access to members-only data.
The first possible cause is if your organization’s (or individual’s/student’s) membership has expired. This is probably the explanation if you were able to access such data at some point in time. If you wish to know the status of your organizational, individual, or student membership (and how much time remains before expiration), email to Jen Goldsberry (jgoldsberry@bioohio.com). Upon membership renewal, your access will be reinstated.
Secondly, if you are unable to obtain access to members-only information, the membership payment may not have been processed yet. Login Names and Passwords are assigned and released upon processing of an organizational or individual application and payment, and may take a few days. If you feel as though your payment should have been processed by now and would like to inquire about its status, contact Jen Goldsberry.
If these scenarios do not correctly characterize your situation do not hesitate to contact Matt Schutte or Jen Goldsberry.
Why do some companies have multiple listings?
Some companies have multiple locations or facilities around Ohio. It is our intention to have accurate information in the Directory about all locations for every company.
What are REGIONS?
The REGION designation allows users to sort results by choosing one of six regions in Ohio: Northwest, Northeast, Southeast, Southwest, West Central, and Central. The region assignments coincide with those designated under Ohio’s Third Frontier Project. The Ohio counties comprising each region are:

Specify what content you wish to have included and be sure to include your contact information. Every effort will be made to provide your report in a timely manner.
What happens if I click SUGGESTIONS / EDITS?
This opens a pre-addressed email to BioOhio. You may use this to submit any comments or suggestions about Directory content, website usability, website malfunctions, etc. Use this feature to recommend companies to be added to the Directory or to correct/update any information about a company in the Directory. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.
Why doesn’t a company appear in the city where I expected to find it?
To the best of our ability, we use the address determined by the company. However in some cases, the city listed by the company (i.e. on their web site) may not correspond with the U.S. Postal Service’s city assignment based on actual address.
How do I print my results?
When viewing the detail page for a specific company, use the “Print this page” function in the upper right corner to print the company details to your local or network printer. This printout will include all visible information on the left side of the screen. Note: to conceal the listing of Cities on the printout, click [Hide Cities] before using the “Print this page” function.
If you wish to print your complete results, you must utilize your browser’s “Print” function, commonly located in the File menu. This print option will print only the currently displayed page of results and not the entire set of results for your search. For a more comprehensive printed summary of your results, you may click REQUEST A CUSTOMIZED REPORT. (See the FAQ, What happens if I click REQUEST A CUSTOMIZED REPORT?)
What is meant by the Regulatory Status field under a company’s detailed description and why doesn’t every company have one?
The intent of the Regulatory Status field is to provide information about a company’s manufacturing registration as an “FDA Registered Medical Device Facility,” “FDA Registered Pharmaceutical Facility,” or an “ISO 13485” (a quality management standard for medical devices issued by the International Organization for Standardization) certified facility. It does not refer to the regulatory status of products belonging to the company.
Our data come from public records obtained from the FDA, company websites, and other public data sources. Although BioOhio is conscientious about providing correct information, we also rely on direct input from individual companies to help us accurately communicate their Regulatory Status. We invite comments related to correcting all errors. Please submit additions, deletions, and corrections by clicking on SUGGESTIONS / EDITS. We do our best to ensure that information from you is added or corrected in a very timely manner.
For companies who are neither FDA registered nor meet the ISO 13485 standard, the Regulatory Status field will not appear.
