Welcome to BioOhio’s Internship Program
BioOhio is one of 11 organizations chosen to serve as brokers of Ohio Third Frontier Internship Program funds in Fiscal Year 2010. These organizations are responsible for matching students in their geographic region or with a specific industry. BioOhio will focus on bioscience internship matches for students and companies throughout the state. Initially BioOhio will administer 26 internship slots, which equates to $78,000 in intern wages.
Established in 2002, the Ohio Third Frontier Internship Program links Ohio college students with rewarding internship opportunities that provide hands-on experience within Ohio's private sector business community. The Program's goal is to build a young, talented workforce for the future and assist students in gaining valuable work experiences that can lead to permanent full-time employment in Ohio after graduation.
The Ohio Third Frontier Internship Program will reimburse up to 50 percent of the intern's wage, or up to $3,000, for a 12-month period. Second-year students at 2-year colleges and students of at least a sophomore level who are majoring in math, science, or engineering are eligible for program participation. Following an intern's graduation, the business partnering firm will have the opportunity to offer full-time employment to an individual who is well-prepared for a future career with the organization.
Goals of the
Third Frontier Internship Program are to (1) develop a pool of talented workers who are more likely to be employed in Ohio after graduation, (2) enrich the educational experience of college students, and (3) assist businesses with their product development efforts and employee recruitment strategies.

The Internship Process
Through the Third Frontier Internship Program website, students can review company postings for internships and find one that is interesting. Using the company contact information, call, email or write the company to indicate your interest.
Employers seeking interns will see a list of only the students who have applied in the categories under which the employer has posted internships. The employer can click on a student name to review the student's application. After reviewing potential interns, the employer can contact the student using the information provided in the student's application. Some employers will have a phone interview to learn about the student's interests and background. Others may ask the student to visit.
Offer/Acceptance
When the employer makes an offer for the internship and the student accepts, the employer will go on the Third Frontier Internship Program web site to "make a match". When the match is approved by BioOhio, an email is sent to the student and the employer notifying each that the match has been made. Another email goes to the student's school to confirm that the student is in good standing.
When the match is finalized, the student's application will be removed and the employer's posting is removed to prevent duplication in hiring for an internship.
