The Link Between Diabetes and Heart Disease

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Healing Hearts of Central Ohio are co-hosting: “The Link Between Diabetes and Heart Disease” with Dr. Kathleen Dungan speaking and Gail Hogan moderating. In addition, new Ohio legislation beneficial to people with diabetes will be highlighted by Senator Hearcel Craig and State Representative Allison Russo.
**According to a July 2017 CDC report, over 100 million U.S. adults are now living with diabetes or pre-diabetes. The CDC also states that heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S. and if you have diabetes, you are twice as likely to have heart disease or a stroke.**
Kathleen Dungan, MD, MPH is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism at The Ohio State University. She serves as Director of the Endocrine Clinical Trials Unit and Associate Director of Clinical Services for the Division.
Ohio Senator Hearcel Craig and Ohio Representative Allison Russo will talk about legislation to get the right medicine to the right patient at the right time, open-access policies, such as step therapy and prior authorization reform, and non-medical switching (Ohio House Bill 418).
Gail Hogan, former NBC4 news anchor and host of Daytime Columbus, now hosts OSU Wexner Medical Center educational programs.
