The BioOhio Patient Summit – A Journey of Innovation & Healing was held on Tuesday, 10/20/2020, and brought together patients, advocacy organizations, legislators, policymakers, academia, regulators, and Ohio’s biotechnology industry, for an afternoon of hope, told through the patient’s perspective in celebration of Ohio’s bioscience community, and its impact on patients here at home and around the world.
This was a FREE event thanks to the generous support of BioOhio members PhRMA, Sarepta Therapeutics, BIO, Ultragenyx, Bristol-Myers Squibb, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, VWR, CoverMyMeds, Quidel, and Battelle.

The 2020 Patient Summit was a huge success with over 30 Patient Ambassadors sharing their unique patient perspectives through both downloadable materials and virtual networking within their branded Patient Pavilions.
Due to the continued popularity of the on-demand content from the 2020 BioOhio Patient Summit, we are extending the online availability to Valentine’s Day 2021! Archived content, including the powerful, informative, and educational Keynote Presentations, is available free to view at Summit.BioOhio.com for those who were able to attend, and anyone that missed the event.

Patient Perspective Virtual Reception
2 – 4:30 pm | Patient Ambassador Pavilions
During the Summit, attendees met over 30 Patient Ambassadors by visiting them in their own virtual Patient Ambassador Pavilion. Patient Ambassadors interacted with attendees, explaining how innovations from the bioscience community are making a difference in their lives.
Each Patient Ambassador Pavilion is customizable and includes digital tools such as the ambassadors’ ability to chat live with individual attendees or as a small group. Guests can watch on-demand educational videos about the disease, the efforts to find a cure, or ways guests can get more involved. Attendees can easily download informational documents, whitepapers, newsletters, and ways to contact the Ambassador – encouraging future engagement with attendees.

2:30 pm Educational Session
Advocacy in Action: (Educational Session) Sharon Lamberton, Deputy Vice President, State Government Advocacy, PhRMA, led an educational session open to all attendees and Patient Ambassadors. “The New Normal: Effective Advocacy (Post Pandemic) After COVID-19” was an informative and powerful presentation providing attendees with the ‘new rules’ patients & advocacy groups need to learn to meet with legislators, policymakers, and the general public.
3:00 pm Keynote Presentation
Making a Difference: “Change: It’s Not Out of Our Hands” by Aaron Westbrook, Founder & CEO of Form5 Prosthetics, a non-profit organization providing eco-friendly 3D printed prosthetics for patients with limited resources here in Ohio. 3:30 pm Keynote Presentation
Patient Perseverance Presentation: “Reprogramming, Regulation & Research: The Quest to End Cancer” A powerful message of hope, healing, and helping others provided by Dr. Zihai Li, Ph.D., Director of the Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology
