Green Biologics, Inc. (formerly ButylFuel, LLC) is developing technology to more efficiently and cost effectively produce butanol as a fuel source. The company has developed and patented technology that overcomes certain cost limitations on butanol production from corn and other forms of biomass. Green Biologics is able to produce 2.5 gallons of butanol from corn with no Acetone or Ethanol (compared to 1.3 to 1.9 gallons of butanol per bushel with an ABE process). The company has demonstrated use of 100% butanol (as opposed to mixed with traditional gas) as a fuel in automobiles. The process generates hydrogen which can also be used as an alternative energy source. Green Biologics’ process is designed to be an alternative to ethanol, while using the same agricultural sources (corn, sugar beets, sorghum, cassava, sugarcane, corn stalks, etc.).
