Thogus, a 62-year old custom injection molder in Avon Lake, has spun out Jalex Medical.

Driven by increasing demand from medical device companies, the new company will focus on biomedical engineering, product development and regulatory and quality assistance. Jalex Medical will share space with Thogus and Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing.

In an interview with Plastics Today, Thogus President Matt Hlavin said that the medical market, which now only represents about 30% of sales at Thogus, will rise to 60% to 70% in the next five years.

Jalex Medical has worked on medical devices such as a biopsy needle, cervical plates, cranial screws and a PEEK interbody fusion device.
