The next evolution of treatment for stabilization and restoration of the spinal column was recently developed at the University of Toledo by Professors Vijay Goel and Anand Agarwal. Drs. Goel and Agarwal’s start-up company, Endosphere Spine, have licensed their endoscopic cage technology to Joimax, a German company with the resources to commercialize it.

The spinal cage is inserted using endoscopic view, and is then filled with autologous bone or a substitute material under endoscopic control which raises and stabilizes the whole spine segment. According to the University of Toledo’s Technology Transfer Office, this will be the world’s first interbody fusion device which can be inserted under direct vision.

Additional details can be gleaned from the Joimax press release.
